The primary goal of a Baby Sleep Consultant is to provide guidance, education, and personalised strategies to improve a baby's sleep patterns and establish healthy sleep habits.

About Your Practitioner:

Lisa Courtney is a certified Midwife and Infant Sleep Practitioner holding degrees from University College Dublin (BSc; MSc) and the University of Southampton. Lisa has always been fascinated by how sleep impacts both babies and parents' wellbeing. It has fuelled her passion to specialise in infant sleep to better support parents. Through her studies and extensive research, she's learned the profound importance of quality sleep for our little ones and us as adults.

She's deeply committed to empowering parents with evidence-based knowledge and practical tools to navigate parenthood with confidence. Together, let's set your family up for success, one peaceful night's sleep at a time.

What are some common sleep challenges parents face with infants?
Common sleep challenges include difficulty settling to sleep, frequent night waking, short naps, and reliance on sleep props such as Dummy’s/Soothers or the need to be rocked/fed to sleep. These challenges can be addressed with gentle sleep training techniques tailored to your baby's age and temperament.

Is it safe to sleep train my infant?
Yes, sleep training can be safe when done appropriately and with consideration for your baby's developmental stage and individual needs. There are various methods that can help teach your baby healthy sleep habits while minimising distress.

How do I know if my baby is getting enough sleep?
Signs that your baby is getting enough sleep include waking up refreshed, being alert and active when awake, and reaching developmental milestones on track. Every baby is different, so it's essential to observe your baby's behaviour and adjust their sleep schedule accordingly.

What is sleep training, and when is the right time to start?
Sleep training involves teaching your baby healthy sleep habits and the ability to self-soothe. The ideal time to start varies, but most babies are developmentally ready for gentle sleep training or sleep shaping methods around 4-6 months old.

What sleep training methods do you recommend, and how do they work?
I offer a variety of gentle sleep training methods tailored to your baby's age, temperament, and your parenting preferences. These methods focus on gradual changes to help your baby learn to fall asleep independently and sleep through the night.

Will sleep training involve leaving my baby to cry alone?
No, my sleep training methods prioritise your baby's emotional well-being and minimise distress. While some methods may involve allowing your baby to fuss for short periods as they learn to self-soothe, I emphasize responsive comforting and support throughout the process.

How long does sleep training typically take, and what can I expect during the process?
The duration of sleep training varies depending on factors such as your baby's temperament and consistency in implementing the techniques. While some families see improvements within a few days, it may take up to 3-4 weeks to establish new sleep habits fully.

What ongoing support do you provide during the sleep training process?
I offer personalised support and guidance tailored to your family's needs throughout the sleep training journey. This includes regular check-ins, troubleshooting challenges, and adjusting strategies as needed to ensure success.
